A Polish lieutenant colonel, named as J. Zbigniew, has been sentenced to six years in prison for spying for Russia, the RBC news website reported Monday, citing local media.
The Polish citizen was fined $4,100 and a mobile phone that he allegedly received for providing Russia with data was confiscated, local online portal Onet.pl reported Monday.
The court stated that Zbigniew was providing Russian intelligence services with information about which Polish servicemen they could recruit.
Zbigniew was arrested in 2014 but the court delivered its verdict only on April 26.
Earlier in May, Polish prosecutors arrested Mateusz Piskorski, the leader of Poland's pro-Russian political party Zmiana (Change) on suspicion of spying for Russia or China, the TASS news agency reported.
